Task 1: how does Emmet come across? How effective would this trailer be in promoting the film?
Emmet is presented to be a very ordinary guy who just has the normal every day life. However he is called upon to be a hero and because other people think he is special, including Lucy, he steps up to meet the challenge. Emmet doesn't seem physically strong because in the trailer we see him struggle to do only three jumping jacks which is not a quality associated with heros. Furthermore, he is very assertive and doesn't seem able to stand up to people, as shown in the clip of him accepting over charged coffee. Therefore, we don't believe that he would be able to call people out like a hero would need to, but that doesn't stop him from being a very likeable guy. A hero usually avoids disaster and is quick on their feet, but Emmet falls strait into a hole demonstrating his lack of agility and clumsiness. It is clear he is terrified on the motorbike and would rather conform and relax on the sofa with a drink. So it seems he is not the special guy that is needed to be a successful hero but this makes him more relatable and appealing to adults and children.
I think this trailer is very effective in promoting the film because it demonstrates good entertainment. The trailer includes lots of comedic scenes, in fact it begins with Batman using his batmobile and then getting his lines wrong which makes the audience laugh and introduce them to the light hearted, fun storyline. Also Batman is a familiar superhero to most people so the fact that he opens the trailer could attract children and adults who love comic books. Also, the trailer promotes action as shown when Emmet is speeding through the streets on a motorbike with Lucy. Action adventure movies usually have a chase sequence so this trailer promises lots of movement to appear in the movie. The editing is fast paced and cuts between text and the scenes which is captivating. As well as having the signature "Everything is Awesome" song that fades in and out as well as another upbeat soundtrack.
